Authentic Motherhood: Matching Moments with Eddie from All-Ethics

Alongside capturing beautiful family photographs, our Matching Moments series delves into authentic, relatable stories of motherhood, free of fluff and full of heart. In our latest conversation, we had the privilege of chatting with Eddie, the founder of All-Ethics, an online fashion store championing sustainability from Europe (SHOP ALL ETHICS SITE ) Eddie opens up about her journey as a mother of two, offering raw insights into the daily balancing act of modern motherhood.

Can you recall a particularly meaningful or challenging moment in your journey through motherhood?

So, I think a challenging moment is, every day! Today the challenge was coming here, you know, on a day when you know you have something to do and your kids have to be in their routine and behave the right way. You want them to stick to their usual routine... and suddenly it's all a mess! One of them is crying, the other one is demanding 'mummy, mummy', and in that moment, you want to scream and shout sometimes! How I have learnt to manage and handle these moments is by breathing. I started doing yoga, and that changed my life. Because one of the things that yoga teaches you is how to breathe. You know, it's funny - we come into this world breathing, and we end up with less breath, so it has to be important. So, in those motherhood moments where I just want to shout and scream and run out of the house, I breathe. I calm down and realise that these little babies, they don't know how to talk or express themselves. How they express themselves is through frustration and crying. They cannot speak to you and say, 'Hey, I need this,' or 'I just want my mummy.' So yeah, breath.

What is your favourite thing to do to connect with your little ones?

So, someone told me that you have to have a special thing you do with both of them. At this age, I was wondering what it could be. I figured out that my oldest son loves to sing, so we sing 'Edelweiss' from 'The Sound of Music.' That's our song, and he won't even let me sing it to Baby G - he goes crazy like, 'That's my song!' We were trying to figure out the best song for Baby G, and I think it's 'My Girl'. So it's lovely - I have a song that is connected to both of them.

Reflecting on your journey, what has been the toughest hurdle for you as a mother?

You know, motherhood is a constant journey of learning and adapting. I thought I had it all figured out after my first child, but then my second came along, and it was a whole new experience. Complications during my second birth taught me that no matter how prepared you think you are, life can always throw you a curveball. It was a wake-up call that motherhood isn't something you master - it's a journey everyday, one that starts the moment you pee on that stick and realise you are pregnant.

With my first child, I had a c-section; he was a breech baby. Everything went smoothly, and it was a wonderful experience. However, with my second child, things took a different turn. It felt like we were knocking on heaven's door, but thankfully, no one was there to receive us. The pregnancy itself was wonderful, and I anticipated a beautiful moment, but t turned out to be quite different. It's a strange feeling because although it was the day she was born, it was beautiful, it was also scary and horrible at the same time.

How did your postpartum with your second birth differ from your first?

I'll be honest it is complicated because, like in my case, having a uterus rupture I was told the day my daughter was born that I probably can't have more kids. I mean it's so difficult because you start thinking that it is your fault, 'It's my fault'. It was hard, postpartum can be really hard. We need to speak up more about it, make more awareness about it

So you are three months postpartum now, how are you feeling?

It's challenging! With the first child, it's just you and them, but with the second, there's a newborn and a toddler vying for your attention! You have to learn new skills, how to divide your time and ensure your there and present for both of them. Juggling this with my professional responsibilities and spending time with my husband adds another layer of complexity. However, everything is gradually falling into place now. Motherhood is a continuous learning experience, teaching you new things about yourself everyday."
